How to Prep Your Cabin for a Photo Shoot

Professional gear catches everything the eye glosses over: dust on a shelf, a stray phone charger, a streaky window. The good news is that an hour or two of focused prep makes a dramatic difference in the final photos.

Clean first, then style

Deep clean before you stage, not after. Wipe down mirrors, glass, and stainless until they shine, and clear every surface of clutter, cleaning supplies, and personal items. Cameras reward a spotless space.

Let the light in

Open every blind and curtain, turn on all the interior lights and lamps, and turn off the TVs. Natural light pouring through clean windows makes a space feel warm, open, and true to life.

Sweat the small details

Make the beds with crisp, wrinkle-free linens. Fluff the pillows and drape throws with intention. Hide cords, close toilet lids, and tuck away trash bins. Outside, sweep the porch, uncover and clean the grill, and make sure the hot tub water is crystal clear.

Add a few lifestyle touches

A bowl of fresh fruit on the counter, a board game set out, a fire laid in the pit. Small, aspirational details help guests picture themselves there.

Use the checklist

We turned the full process into a free, printable Shoot-Day Staging Checklist. Work through it room by room before the shoot and your property will be camera-ready.
